MISLEAD
From birth, people make contradictory choices; what is the proper judgment? What is the wrong choice? What is a righteous act? What is evil behavior? Good and evil have always remained absolute opposites. But is what we subjectively believe to be good and bad really right? My work MISLEAD questions this clear-cut theory of good and evil and illustrates the deception of subjective thinking.
MISLEAD is a work of ink, pastel, and colored pencil. I use layers of dyed ink to create a sense of balance and tension between two opposing worlds. The figures are deeply intertwined with the scene through pastels and colored pencils. The characters are engulfed by the dichotomous worlds. Pure white and holy "elves" play in the pool, unaware they are being coveted by "ghosts" from the cracks of the abyss. But is this really the case? Why are the elves, who seem so innocent, doing seductive poses? Why do the "ghosts" look so frightened and struggle with their bodies?
I create a seductive relationship in the artwork world, however the artwork misleads the viewer in the actual dimension. I use the first impression of the work as a thought-provoking switch, laying down conflicting and intriguing clues to lead the viewer to further philosophical and critical thinking.
